Guatemala
Washed Caturra
Caramel, apple, dark chocolate
Finca San Jose del Lago is located in the Western highlands of Guatemala, in the department of Solola. It is overlooking the beautiful Atitlan Lake and surrounded by 3 volcanoes: Atitlan, San Pedro and Toliman. The farm covers 200 hectares, 45 of which are cultivated with coffee. The rest is a natural reserve, untouched nature where hunting and logging are prohibited.
A couple of years ago, Eduardo Cabrera, the owner of the farm, was able to invest in a small wet mill on the farm premises, enabling him to process his harvests himself. This lot comes from his Caturra trees. This varietal is the result of a mutation of the Bourbon variety. It was discovered sometime between 1915 and 1918 in Brazil. This mutation causes the plant to grow shorter. Introduced in Guatemala in the 1940s, it is now one of the most economically coffee cultivar in Central America.
This coffee shines through its simplicity, with caramel sweetness, balanced by an apple acidity. Perfect for the daily driver, for both espresso or filter coffee enthusiast.
